Romans International

Romans International is the organisation that arranges the links and activities with Romans’ 9 Partner Towns.  These include youth exchanges and practical development projects as well as more conventional exchange visits.  Formerly there was an International Meeting of representatives from all the partner towns to discus projects and exchanges but no longer takes place.  The emphasis is now on youth projects.   Romans International Web Site.

International Weekend

For many years an international meeting was held in Romans every 2 years.  All Romans’ nine Twin and Partner Towns were invited to send representatives, however, this no longer takes place.
The purpose of the international weekend was to enable people from the different countries to come together and discuss future co-operation and links for their mutual benefit.
An important part of this was about  work and projects that involve young people.  Romans International organizes a number of projects and activities with its partner towns each year - some are practical others are artistic and cultural.  All are intended to bring together young people from different countries and cultures so that they gain a better understanding of other people’s way of life and the challenges they face in different circumstances.
The International Weekend was also an opportunity for groups of young people from the partner Towns to
come together and take part in joint activities which are normally of a sporting or cultural nature.  At the same time the main delegates from each country discussed a topic or theme of common interest to  see what could be learned from different approaches.  The theme might be about the environment, climate change, sustainability or some general cultural theme such as wealth or hospitality and what such things mean to different people in different circumstances.  There is usually an international exhibition or debate involving local people as well as visitors.

INTERNATIONAL TOURISM

POCKET GUIDE

It was agreed at the International Biennale Meeting in July 2012 to produce a Pocket Tourism Guide featuring all Romans’ Twin and Partner Towns. The First Part was presented at the International Meeting of Mayors in July 2013, featuring Beit Sahour (Palestine), El Jem (Tunisia), Taroudant (Morocco) and Vardenis (Armenia) along side Romans-sur-Isere.  Coalville has been invited to submit material for inclusion in the Guide.  This will help to publicise our area and enable local people to see the diverse range of countries associated with our Twin Town and the opportunities for tourism.
